Why Your Acne Keeps Coming Back

Most acne treatments focus on drying the skin out or managing the surface. That's why the breakouts come back.

The real issue is internal — inflammation, excess oil production, a weakened skin barrier, or an imbalanced skin microbiome. Treating the surface without addressing these causes is like mopping the floor without turning off the tap.

Korean clinical skincare works differently. The goal is to restore your skin's ability to regulate itself — so breakouts become less frequent and less severe over time, not just temporarily suppressed.

What Treatments Are Used

Every session starts with a skin assessment. The protocol is then built around what your skin actually needs that day. No fixed menu. No one-size approach.

Depending on your skin, your treatment may include one or more of the following:

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

A topical photosensitizer is applied to the skin and activated by LED light. It selectively accumulates in overactive oil glands — the root cause of most inflammatory acne — and the light activation disrupts those glands at a cellular level. PDT is one of the few professional treatments that directly targets sebum production rather than just clearing the surface. No antibiotics. No prescription medication.

ALA Photodynamic Therapy

A gentler variation of PDT using aminolevulinic acid (ALA) — a naturally occurring compound that makes overactive skin cells sensitive to light. Same mechanism as PDT, calibrated for inflammatory or sensitized acne-prone skin where a milder approach is needed.

Carboxy CO2 Therapy

Carbon dioxide is applied to the skin, triggering your body to flood the area with oxygenated blood — a response called the Bohr Effect. Acne bacteria thrive in low-oxygen environments. Carboxy therapy shifts those conditions, making the skin a less favorable place for breakouts to form. It also improves circulation and clears congestion deep in the pores. No needles. No downtime.

Professional Korean Clinical Formulations

Concentrated professional-grade serums and solutions selected for their anti-inflammatory, sebum-regulating, and barrier-restoring properties. These are not retail products. The specific formulations are chosen at your consultation based on your skin condition.

This Treatment Is For

  • Active breakouts

  • Blackheads and congested pores

  • Oily and acne-prone skin

  • Teen acne

  • Inflammatory acne

  • Recurring breakouts that haven't responded to products

What to Expect

Your first session includes a brief skin consultation. Debby assesses your skin and selects the right combination of technologies for that day. Most clients leave with visibly calmer, less congested skin after the first session. Consistent results build over a series — most acne clients visit every 3 to 6 weeks.Every session is 2 hours. The protocol is reassessed each time.

What About Acne Scarring?

Once active breakouts are under control, treatment shifts to improving post-acne marks, uneven texture, and deeper scarring. Microneedling stimulates collagen production and gradually refines skin texture and tone.

Will my skin get worse before it gets better?

Some clients experience a short purging phase after deep cleansing — congestion that was forming under the surface clears faster. It's temporary.

I'm on Accutane. Can I still get treated?

Not during the course. Accutane thins the skin and makes extractions and peels unsafe. We can do the treatment 6 months after you are done with the course of Accutane. Mention this at your consultation

Do I need to do anything before my appointment?

STOP using any acid, prescription retinoids, or taking any photosensitizing medications a week before treatment, mention this when you book.

How often do I need to come in?

Most acne clients see the best results with consistent visits every 3–6 weeks rather than a one-off session. Your consultation will set a realistic schedule based on your skin.

What should I avoid after treatment?

For 24–48 hours: no heavy makeup, no sweating, no direct sun exposure. If your session includes photodynamic therapy, strict sun avoidance for 48 hours is essential — your skin will be temporarily more light-sensitive. Debby will give you specific aftercare instructions at your appointment.

FAQ

Can I come in if my skin is actively breaking out?

Yes — you don't need to wait for it to clear. The protocol is adjusted to what your skin looks like that day. Active breakouts are part of what we're treating.

I'm a teenager. Is this treatment right for me?

Yes. Teen acne is one of the most common conditions treated here. The protocol is adjusted for younger, often more reactive skin. The teen rate is $180 for clients 20 and under.
